Fujifilm Recipes
A Fujifilm recipe is a custom combination of in-camera settings, film simulation, white balance shift, highlight and shadow tone, grain, and sharpness that produces a specific, finished look the moment SOOC. The mood, colour, and contrast are already decided, leaving you free to focus on the shot itself rather than what you’ll do to it once you’re home.
I have been shooting JPEG-only recently with my travel work, and these recipes are the reason that’s possible. I’ve been using film recipes for some time now, and only after substantial time using them did I feel I had an understanding of how each setting affected the overall look of my images. As a result, I set out to create my own. Some trial and error, some setting tweaks after the fact, but I finalized recipes I enjoy and the look I usually prefer while travelling.
These recipes were developed and shot on my Fujifilm X-H2. If you’re shooting an older Fujifilm body, most of these settings should carry over. However, some of the finer highlight, shadow, and grain controls are generation-dependent, so they may vary slightly on earlier cameras. Seaside Pastel
Built on a Nostalgic Neg base with DR400 pulled in to protect highlight detail, this recipe leans into airy, sun-faded tones and a restrained, slightly muted palette of warm light against cooler blues. It’s the recipe I reach for at the coast specifically: golden hour light on water, weathered wood, faded paint, anything that benefits from looking a little softened rather than punchy and saturated.
Soft Vintage Glow
A Classic Chrome base, softened in contrast and shifted slightly warm, built to feel more like a memory. Grain adds a bit of texture without overwhelming the frame, and the muted colour response holds up well across a range of daylight conditions, not just the golden hour-dependent looks. This is a great recipe to establish a consistent, vintage-leaning character.
