Of all the cities across the Atlantic, Paris has been the one city that I have been to the most. It started in the first days of 2013, and this trip marks my fifth time in Paris. Oddly, despite numerous visits, I have few photos of the city, which prompted me to return to Paris.

In late June, I booked a direct, round-trip flight from Halifax to Amsterdam. As of the booking date, I had plans to spend a few days in Amsterdam, probably at the end of the trip, before returning to Halifax. I thought it would be convenient to be in my city of departure on the day I needed to fly home. However, my initial plan changed.

I arrived in Dubrovnik from Zagreb, and if you plan to visit and are arriving at Dubrovnik Airport, I recommend organizing your transportation from the airport to your accommodation before arrival. It’s easier, and the drive to Dubrovnik around Old Town is scenic. The Airbnb was located above the Old Town, which provided a great view.

Looking back after a few weeks, and having that time to reflect on this portion of my final trip of the year, Dubrovnik was absolutely a great choice to include. Croatia has been on my list of places to visit for some time, and my days there were blessed with fantastic weather and amazing scenery. I had time to casually explore at my own pace, enjoying the early morning light on some occasions and the sunsets on others.

My trip to Zagreb was one of the most spontaneous location decisions I have made when planning travel. I do not know anyone personally who has even been to the city. I didn’t conduct much research before choosing it, nor did I do much in the period between booking and arriving in Zagreb.

I travelled when I was younger. I took a handful of trips to Montreal, Quebec, to visit my aunt or road trips across the border in Maine with my mother. Growing up in New Brunswick, Canada, cross-border drives were not uncommon. In my teens, I recall driving to Calais, Maine, to purchase CDs and cassettes that were unavailable at home. A fantastic music store just over the border had an incredible selection of hip-hop albums.

Soon after I returned from Spain, I began searching for my next trip. Even though I was glad to get back, once I started going through the images and videos captured in Spain, I realized that I wanted to book something else soon. There is a lot of joy in having something to look forward to, and with this trip scheduled for early September, it would give me a chance to pay for everything over time.

Peggy’s Cove and the iconic Peggy’s Point Lighthouse are among the most recognized and frequently visited landmarks in Nova Scotia. The area around Peggy’s Cove has some exquisite coastal scenery, a fascinating fishing village atmosphere, and the iconic Peggy’s Point lighthouse at the entrance to St. Margaret’s Bay.

I had the opportunity to explore and photograph Seville and Malaga during my recent travels in June. These two locations are two places I have been looking forward to visiting. Seville has been on my list for a few years now, and Malaga, with its proximity to Seville, was an easy decision to include on this trip.

I chose Malaga as my second destination because I’ve heard it is one of the must-visit cities in Spain. I’ve also seen some photographs from there, and I was excited to have the opportunity to take my own photographs. Additionally, it’s pretty close to Seville, making it easily accessible. It’s just over two hours with one switch in Cordoba. Malaga is situated south of Seville and is located on the Mediterranean Sea.

The south of Spain offers a compelling allure for photographers due to its diverse landscapes, unique architecture, and vibrant colours. When looking at destinations for this June trip, Spain, particularly Seville, was near the top of the list. In June, the south of Spain had a very good chance of having favourable weather for me. That entails plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures.

I advocate for experiencing the world, and it’s great to do so while not spending needlessly. Make no mistake, I love a fight-class flight, and those lay-down pods are a taste of luxury. However, flight upgrades are expensive, and upgrades and add-ons can significantly increase the final cost of a trip. And if budget travel is the priority, the total price can quickly add up to something that may make you think twice about hitting that “pay now” button at the final step of your flight booking.

As photographers, our cameras are usually not far away when we travel. They are in the camera bag and ready to go, or we can explore the city streets with the camera in hand. Travel photography is a fantastic combination of two things I love: travelling and taking photos. Once I have booked that next trip and the itinerary is ready, I can't help but get excited.

“You must be excited about your trip; it’s coming soon!” Next week, I’ll be on my way to Spain! And yes, I’m excited! I didn’t think that hit me until this past weekend. I partially believe this has crept up quietly because the weather has been unpleasant here. I thought it would be beautiful, sunny in June, and…well, summer. It isn’t. It isn’t at all! When I booked this trip in January, I felt it was so far away, and really, it was.
