How I Choose Where to Travel Next
I was looking through my photo archives from 2023 and realized I had a great travel year. London, New York, Mexico, Chicago, and South Africa. I’m more than happy with the opportunities I had last year and the content I produced from those destinations. London was an entire week, New York was three days, and Chicago was only one day to shoot.
Car Light Painting Advice for Better Results
Spring is just around the corner, and if you live in a cold climate like I do, you will realize that car owners will be anxious to get their prized possessions out of storage and onto the open road. With a new season comes new opportunities to photograph. It’s a perfect time to review tips for successfully light painting a car for a successful photoshoot.
Peggy's Cove with the Fujifilm X-H2 and 23mm F2
I visited Peggy’s Cove a few weeks ago, which was my first time being there in years. It was a brief visit, but I saw the changes since my last time there. Our last few weeks have been somewhat gloomy, and the sun had rarely appeared, but this night, the forecast called for clear skies. I knew it would still be quite cold with the wind around the lighthouse, which is typical.
Focus on the Now
As photographers, we can focus on the result more than the experience. We can research our destinations, looking for the “best” place to get the “best” photographs. Learning more about our destination is a logical and appropriate step to learn more about what to expect and what to hope to experience when we arrive, but focusing on the experience should be the point.
When Spending More Makes Sense
Today, Fujifilm announced the X100VI, replacing the X100V, the hugely popular camera model that became a social media legend. As more people embraced the exceptional camera and did so quickly, it sold out everywhere, and prices for second-hand examples were sometimes double the value of a new model. People were paying massive amounts to get their hands on an X100V.
Fuji XF23mm F2: A Non-Technical Review
Having experience with the 35mm f/2, I believe the 23mm f/2 fits well with what I like about a lens: compactness. I like small, discreet lenses, and I wanted something wider than the 35mm that would still fit the bill. I was considering one of two wider lenses, the 16mm f/1.4 and the 18mm f/1.4. After testing both, I found they were too wide, a bit larger than I hoped, and ultimately too expensive.
Winter From Peggy’s Cove
I often discuss the allure of travelling as experiencing new areas hugely benefits well-being and self-development. I try to travel frequently and take advantage of every opportunity, but exploring doesn’t have to be limited to somewhere far from home.
The Illusion of Perfect Timing
When planning to travel somewhere, we often debate whether we should go. We wait for the perfect time to fit this into our busy lives. We may hesitate to commit as we look at the factors that weigh our decision. We have been heavily researching and eagerly anticipating, and this could now be the ideal time to book that vacation and embark on that adventure on our wish list.
A Winter Getaway: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Flying out of Halifax across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe can be inconvenient for people who are unaware, and desperately so if doing it during the winter months. Leaving Halifax, we often need to travel west for a connecting flight to fly east to our final destination. That adds a significant amount of time to the total flight time. That may include flying from Halifax to Toronto, Montreal, or sometimes Newark, but all those connections easily add four to five hours of flight time.
5 Tips for Better Travel Photos
I’ve travelled far from home many times and had great experiences, capturing many photos I adore today. However, there have been destinations I have travelled to where I did not get any photos that I considered very good or ones worth sharing. Some steps can be taken to get the best out of travel and what photos we come home with, and this post will look at five tips that can help you capture better travel photos.
Fujifilm X-H2: New Camera, First Impressions
In December, I mentioned that I was parting ways with my Fujifilm X-E4, a camera that I adored using. I have owned that camera for nearly two years, which has been with me on many travels. Still, I have been considering upgrading the camera for months now as there are a few features that I was missing in the X-E4.
How Travel Benefits You and Your Photography
It’s fair to mention that travel can be expensive, and with life’s commitments, having the money and time to travel can be challenging. If you are fortunate enough to be able to travel, I encourage you to go somewhere, even if you know nothing about the place you plan to visit. There are many benefits of breaking your daily routine and experiencing a difference in your day-to-day.
