2026 Genesis GV70
I’ve been working with Genesis here in Halifax for a few years now, and I’ve photographed almost their entire lineup over that time. This week, I had the opportunity to spend a few days with the 2026 Genesis GV70. The timing worked out perfectly, as the first evening I had it resulted in zero keepers, and I’m fortunate to have had another day with the GV70. This is what happens when you go 10 months without an automotive shoot: you get rusty. It took me a while to get into the process as my work has been focused mostly on travel, and that’s a whole different approach.
When I was warming up and getting accustomed to shooting a vehicle again, it served as a reminder to me of how much photography is a mental game. Your head has to be in it, or it won’t work.
After reviewing the first photos from the previous evening and realizing where I was falling short, I woke the next day with a new strategy and plan. Checking the forecast it was supposed to cloud over early in the afternoon, so with my camera in hand, I headed out early. It was a holiday, too, so traffic was limited. However, the most significant advantage of shooting on a car on site is that, during a holiday, most businesses are closed, which is guaranteed in industrial or commercial parks. There is a lot of new construction around where I live, and many areas are now constructed and ready for new businesses. Much is still vacant, but it won’t be soon enough.
The Stats
The 2026 Genesis GV70 Sport is a performance-focused compact luxury SUV from Genesis, featuring a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, paired with standard all-wheel drive. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Acceleration to 60 mph takes about five seconds. It offers sport-tuned electronically controlled suspension, an available electronic limited-slip differential, and exclusive 21-inch wheels, which look great.
The Interior
Inside, the GV70 Sport boasts a luxurious cabin featuring Nappa leather, suede accents, carbon fibre trim, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats, among other premium features. Brand new this year is the addition of a wide 27-inch OLED display. Advanced technology and safety features, including a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system and comprehensive driver-assist systems, come standard.
The Competition
Based on its size and price range, the 2026 Genesis GV70 competes in the luxury compact SUV segment against several well-established models. Its primary competitors include the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. These three are the most direct competitors. However, others include the Acura RDX, Lexus RX350, and Porsche Macan.
The 2026 Genesis GV70 stands out among luxury compact SUVs by offering a unique combination of sharp design, a luxurious interior, and advanced technology at a competitive price, with many features that could be considered add-ons being standard in the GV70.
